Israeli-Houthi Tensions Escalate As Missile Hits Central Town
Israeli security forces are on high alert following a ballistic missile attack from Yemen that crashed in the central town of Bet Shemesh near Jerusalem. The Israeli army confirmed that the projectile, fired from Yemen, set off air raid alerts in central regions, including Tel Aviv and Jerusalem.
Footage circulating on social media showed what appeared to be an interception attempt over the Givat Samwil settlement in occupied Jerusalem. No casualties or damage have been reported so far. The Home Front Command also reported the sirens, and Israeli media later confirmed that the missile was intercepted in mid-air.
This incident comes just two days after Israeli airstrikes targeted Sana'a International Airport in Yemen, reportedly destroying the last functioning Yemeni Airlines aircraft and rendering the airport inoperable. In response, the Houthi movement in Yemen vowed retaliation and reaffirmed their support for Gaza.
The Houthi group announced a naval blockade on Israel's Port of Haifa, warning commercial ships to avoid the port. They have also threatened to sanction and potentially attack the entire fleet of companies that call at Haifa, expanding their maritime actions beyond the port itself. Israel continues to respond to Houthi attacks through surgical strikes on crucial Houthi assets in Yemen.
