Lower Saxony's big kahuna, Olaf Lies (SPD), is ready to toss the AfD outta the political game if they step over the line and threaten the democratic order. But before flippin' the switch, he insists we better sift through the evidence real careful-like.
"This ain't no walk in the park, but if the evidence stacks up, politics has to step up and deal with it," said the SPD dude. "We got a duty to make sure a party that's a threat to the democratic order gets the boot or, at least, gets cut off from the party cash. "So, we need a fresh, constructive politics game plan that'll bring us all back together and bridge the divides we're currently feelin'."
"We ain't stoppin' the shift"
Lies sees the rise in the AfD, especially among former SPD folks, as a concern about the future. "But we ain't gonna stop the changes," he said. "We gonna have a transformed economy, more digitalization, and societal shifts."
Politics needs proof that its solutions work—like in the economy with markets for green steel or markets for electric vehicles. People gotta feel that this clean energy path can keep 'em afloat tomorrow. This has been ignored recently, said Lies. A squabble over the right approach won't calm anyone.

Since May 2022, the Lower Saxony AfD state association has been under the microscope by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution.
