The world of professional golf has been shaken by an administrative error that has impacted the careers of two players, MJ Daffue and Rayhan Thomas.

In the complex world of medical exemptions on the PGA Tour and Korn Ferry Tour, players who have lost status due to medical issues are given a set number of starts to earn a minimum number of points. If they fail to meet these requirements, they lose their exemption and their eligibility status changes, often dropping them into lower priority categories or making them ineligible for certain fields.

During the ISCO Championship, MJ Daffue, who was competing under a medical exemption on the PGA Tour, failed to earn enough points to keep his status. Despite this, a clerical error or unfortunate mistake by the PGA Tour/Korn Ferry Tour administration allowed Daffue to compete in the Pinnacle Bank Championship, an event reserved for PGA Tour members not exempt for current events.

This oversight prevented Rayhan Thomas, who rightfully qualified for the event based on the Korn Ferry Tour points list, from participating. Thomas, who finished 107th in points, spent time waiting as the first alternate but never received notification to play because the incorrect inclusion of Daffue took the spot Thomas should have had.

The Korn Ferry Tour has confirmed that this was indeed a mistake they are attempting to rectify. The error has highlighted the significant impact such administrative errors can have on player opportunities.

MJ Daffue is currently in a share of fourth at the Pinnacle Bank Championship, with scores of 67 and 66. However, he should not have been in the field for this event, as his medical exemption no longer applies.

Rayhan Thomas, on the other hand, is confident that the error will be resolved, and he will be compensated appropriately. He has one top 10 this season and made seven cuts in 20 events.

The Pinnacle Bank Championship is the penultimate event of the 2025 Korn Ferry Tour regulation season. The top 75 in the Korn Ferry Tour standings after this event will qualify for the Korn Ferry Tour Championship in two months. The PGA Tour remains the destination where the golden ticket lies for Korn Ferry Tour participants.
