Miraz set to captain Bangladesh in One-Day Internationals

New Lead of the Bangladesh ODI Squad:

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, a formidable all-rounder for Bangladesh, will take the helm as the captain of their ODI team during the upcoming series against Sri Lanka in July this year[3][4]. He steps in to replace Najumul Hossain Shanto in a twelve-month stint[3][4].

"Captaining the national team is a dream come true... this marks a proud moment not just for me, but for my family too," Miraz shared, as quoted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) in a statement[4]. He expressed belief in his teammates, expressing that they possess both the skills and the mental fortitude to play fearless cricket.

Having served as a stand-in captain in four ODIs previously in 2024, this is not Miraz's first leadership experience[3]. Ranked fourth in the world among ODI all-rounders according to ICC rankings, he demonstrates his consistency and leadership prowess on the field[4].

Apart from the three ODI matches, Bangladesh will also challenge Sri Lanka in two Test matches. The first Test is slated to begin in Galle on June 17, with the second Test set to follow in Colombo from June 25[4].

For the Test series, Miraz will hold the position of vice-captain, with Najumul Hossain Shanto leading the team. This marks the beginning of the next World Test Championship cycle[4]. Although Shanto will lead the team in Tests, Miraz's energetic presence and all-around skills make him an integral part of the team[3].

International sports will see a new leadership in the upcoming Bangladesh ODI series against Sri Lanka, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz taking the helm as captain. Miraz, who is ranked fourth in the world among ODI all-rounders, previously served as a stand-in captain for Bangladesh in four ODI matches.
