Minnesota’s First Winter Storm Brings Chaos With Heavy Snow and Blizzard Conditions

Minnesota’s first major winter storm of the season struck on Tuesday afternoon, bringing heavy snow, strong winds, and plunging temperatures. The system caused widespread travel disruptions, with blizzard warnings issued for western and northern areas of the state as well as parts of Wisconsin.

The storm began as rain in the Twin Cities before shifting to snow late on Tuesday night. By 9 p.m., many roads in northern and central Minnesota were already snow-covered, and a stretch of Interstate 94 near Moorhead had been closed. Wind gusts and rapidly falling temperatures worsened conditions, creating near-whiteout visibility in some areas.

The storm has left many roads hazardous, with lingering snow and ice likely to slow travel into Wednesday. Residents are advised to check road conditions before heading out, as further wintry weather could return by the weekend. The NWS continues to monitor the situation and may issue additional updates.
