Minnesota Wild celebrates Black History Month with a night of hockey and community
The Minnesota Wild will honour Black History Month with a special celebration on Monday, February 2. The event will feature a range of in-game activities when the team takes on the Montreal Canadiens at Grand Casino Arena.
Fans can expect appearances from local leaders, youth skaters, and community organisations as part of the evening's festivities.
The celebration will begin with a Let's Play Hockey! announcement by recently retired Minneapolis Fire Chief Bryan Tyner. Calvin Simon, Head Coach of the Shakopee Boys Varsity Hockey team, will also receive recognition through the Securian Stick Tap Salute.
During the second intermission, youth skaters from Mosaic Hockey Collective will take part in a shootout. Elvie, a 10-year-old member of the collective, will serve as the honorary Flag Bearer before the game.
Community groups such as Be The Change, Boys and Girls Club, GlamKam Hockey Foundation, KNOCK, and Mosaic Hockey Collective will be highlighted throughout the arena concourse. The Minnesota Wild Foundation will run a Black History Celebration Online Auction from February 2 to February 11, offering fans a chance to bid on exclusive items.
Special ticket packs are available for the event, including a themed sweatshirt, a game ticket, and a donation to Be the Change Minnesota. Additionally, Black History Celebration Mystery Pucks will be sold, with all proceeds supporting the Minnesota Wild Foundation.
The evening will bring together hockey, community, and celebration in recognition of Black History Month. Proceeds from ticket packs and Mystery Puck sales will directly benefit local organisations and the Minnesota Wild Foundation. The event aims to highlight contributions from Black leaders and athletes in the region.
