Minnesota battles hazardous winter storm with icy roads and school closures
A winter storm has brought hazardous conditions to Minnesota The storm hit overnight, prompting winter weather alerts across much of Minnesota. The Twin Cities faces the worst of it, with a winter storm warning in place until midday. Drivers are warned of slick roads from freezing rain and sleet, particularly during the morning rush.
To the north, slushy snow remains, creating slippery patches. Conditions are expected to ease by evening as precipitation shifts to rain in southern areas and moves out. Another system arrives on Friday, bringing fresh snow—mostly west and northwest of the metro. The Twin Cities, however, will see rain instead, continuing into Saturday. By Easter Sunday, skies will clear, but temperatures will drop, leaving a cold but dry end to the weekend.
The storm has forced school closures and delays, though exact numbers remain unclear. Travel will stay difficult until the system clears later on Thursday. Residents are advised to check for updates as more snow is forecast for Friday in parts of the state.
