Ministry remains hopeful for Monday's presentation by the new railway leader, despite widespread skepticism

The upcoming week is set to bring a significant development in the German railway sector, as the Federal Ministry of Transport prepares to announce a new CEO for Deutsche Bahn. The position has been vacant since August, following the premature replacement of Richard Lutz.

The ministry spokesperson confirmed on Friday that Minister Patrick Schnieder is hopeful about the upcoming presentation, expressing optimism that he will not face the press alone. However, the identity of the new CEO remains undisclosed at this time.

The announcement was made in response to a query from the dts news agency. According to the spokesperson, the outlines of a reform of the German railway and a new railway strategy will be presented on Monday, with the new CEO potentially being introduced as early as next Monday.

However, not everyone shares Minister Schnieder's optimism. Detlef Neuß, association chairman of Pro Bahn, has expressed skepticism about the new CEO, stating that a system change cannot be implemented on the tracks in such a short time. Pro Bahn, a passenger association, has also expressed low expectations for Minister Schnieder's plans.

In the meantime, Dr. Sigrid Nikutta has been appointed as the provisional CEO of Deutsche Bahn, before the official appointment of Richard Lutz's successor. Nikutta, who is currently the head of long-distance passenger transport, will lead the company on an interim basis until a successor is found.

The new CEO will face the challenge of improving punctuality and addressing multimillion-dollar deficits, which have been long-standing issues for Deutsche Bahn. The presentation of the new CEO is an upcoming event that is generating much anticipation and debate within the industry and among railway users.

As the week unfolds, the railway sector eagerly awaits the announcement of the new CEO, with hopes that the upcoming leadership will bring about positive changes and address the challenges facing the industry.
