Minister of Aviation directs inclusion of Nigerian musician Wasiu Ayinde on travel ban list due to his actions of impeding an airplane at Abuja's airport
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) is currently investigating an incident that took place at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja, involving popular Nigerian musician King Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, also known as K1 De Ultimate.
The incident occurred during boarding for a ValueJet flight to Lagos (Flight VK 201) on August 5, 2025. According to reports, K1 allegedly attempted to bring an unidentified liquid substance onboard, which violated aviation regulations. Despite multiple warnings from Aviation Security (AVSEC) personnel and the flight captain, the musician refused to comply.
Following the incident, K1 was removed from the tarmac by AVSEC's crime unit and later released following an initial investigation. The liquid substance was later confirmed to be alcohol.
Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has directed that K1 be placed on a no-fly list. Keyamo described the act as a severe breach of safety protocols and has instructed the NCAA to notify all domestic and international airlines of the restriction. Any airline that fails to comply with the directive risks having its operating license withdrawn.
The situation escalated when the flight captain intervened and ordered the aircraft doors closed after boarding was completed. K1 allegedly obstructed the aircraft on the airport tarmac, repeatedly positioning himself in front of the aircraft, preventing it from taxiing to the runway. He then moved to the front of the aircraft and blocked it from taxiing.
The NCAA had previously temporarily suspended the licenses of the aircraft's pilot and captain for taxiing while the tarmac was not fully cleared. This incident highlights the importance of adhering to aviation regulations to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew members.
Safety regulations for liquids and items on board aircraft are typically set by aviation authorities such as the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) in Nigeria or international organizations like the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). These regulations are designed to ensure the safety of all passengers and crew members.
If it is confirmed that a confrontation took place between K1 and airport staff involving an unidentified liquid substance, it could potentially lead to internal investigations or even legal action, depending on the severity of the allegations and the applicable laws in Nigeria. However, without specific details or reports, it is difficult to provide accurate information on this matter.
