Minister Declines Bouquet: Jal Shakti Minister Rejects Gesture at Surat Event in Protest of Pahalgam Terror Attack

Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil opted against accepting a bouquet during an event in Surat, Gujarat, and declared, "No welcome until revenge," hinting at the Pahalgam terror attack. At a recent Global Investor Conference, Patil declined the offered bouquet and remarked his displeasure in Gujarati to the stage host.

During his speech, the organizers intended to honor Patil with a floral arrangement. However, the Minister flatly refused, expressing that he would not accept the gesture until the Pahalgam attack is avenged. The organizers offered a memento, but Patil also declined that offering.

The Aftermath of the Pahalgam Terror Attack

On April 22, terrorists carried out a shooting rampage in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam, resulting in 26 casualties. In response, the government convened an emergency all-party meeting, and opposition parties pledged their unwavering support for actions against the attack's perpetrators.

During a Cabinet Committee on Security briefing, the links between the cross-border terror attack and Pakistan were exposed. In the aftermath, the government initiated several measures, such as

  • Suspending the Indus Water Treaty of 1960, aiming to send a message to Pakistan regarding their support for cross-border terrorism.
  • Providing armed forces with complete operational freedom to decide on the appropriate mode, targets, and timing for India's response.
  • Announcing a series of punitive measures against Islamabad, including the banning of all imports and transit of goods from Pakistan.

On the same day, New Delhi implemented further restrictive measures against Pakistan. Tensions remain high, with Pakistan reportedly conducting ballistic missile tests on May 3, which India perceived as a provocation. The government persists in its economic pressure on Pakistan while addressing the challenges of cross-border security.

  • General news outlets reported on Saturday that the Indian government refuses to accept any negotiations with Pakistan, following the Pahalgam terror attack.
  • The Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil's remarks at a recent event in Surat express his personal stance against Pakistan, stating, "No welcome until revenge."
  • In the politics domain, opposition parties in India have pledged their support for actions against the Pahalgam attack's perpetrators, demanding a strong response from the government.
  • The Crime and Justice sector has seen an escalation in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack, with war-and-conflicts and diplomatic tensions rising between the two nations.
Saturday's announcement from New Delhi details retaliatory actions towards Islamabad, such as prohibiting the entrance of imports and transit of goods from nearby territory.
