After the chaotic riots by aggressive soccer supporters at a Bundesliga match in Frankfurt, Lower Saxony's Interior Minister Daniela Behrens is demanding a reduction in violence inside stadiums. "Last weekend's soccer sidelines violence highlights a concerning trend that has persisted in the world of soccer for some time," stated Behrens, who is also the state's Minister of Sport. "We cannot allow this violent uprising to continue on match days."
The Bundesliga clash between Eintracht Frankfurt and VfB Stuttgart (1-2) last Saturday saw serious rioting by violent Ultras. According to Frankfurt's police department, which used pepper spray, batons, and other forms of control to manage the situation, "several dozen police officers were injured during the riots," as reported by the police union (GdP).
