Minister Barbara Bas Optimistic About Passing Basic Income Bill
Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Barbara Bas (SPD), expresses optimism about passing her draft bill on basic income through the cabinet. The bill aims to assist those in need and facilitate their return to the job market, with the Green Party (Die Grünen) acting as the coalition partner in negotiations.
Bas emphasizes the necessity of a political agreement between coalition partners for the bill's passage. She believes that the greatest savings come from bringing people back to work and imposing sanctions on those who do not cooperate. However, she does not wish to discuss specific instruments for sanctions and participation requirements publicly until the draft bill is available.
The minister considers the complete abolition of future basic security in extreme cases, such as when individuals are completely untraceable. She also suggests the withdrawal of financial support in such cases as a matter of justice for those who cooperate and follow the rules. Job center employees have expressed a wish for manageable sanctions and participation requirements that they can implement effectively.
The draft bill is scheduled to be introduced into the procedure in October. Bas's optimism about its passage reflects her belief in its potential to help those in need and facilitate their return to the job market, while also ensuring justice for those who cooperate.
