So dark becomes DC's new 'Supergirl' - Milly Alcock’s *Supergirl* redefines the heroine in a dark, cosmic adventure

DC has unveiled the first trailer for Supergirl, a bold new take on the classic heroine. Directed by Craig Gillespie, the film stars Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El and introduces a darker, more troubled version of the character. Set for release on June 24, 2026, the project also marks Jason Momoa’s return to the DC Universe as the brutal bounty hunter Lobo.

The film adapts Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the acclaimed comic series by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Unlike the traditional Superman mythos, this story follows a broken Kara Zor-El as she travels across the galaxy with her loyal dog, Krypto. Along the way, she meets Ruthye Marye Knoll, a young alien girl desperate for help in hunting down her family’s killer.

With its June 2026 release date confirmed, Supergirl is shaping up to be one of DC’s most unconventional projects. The combination of Alcock’s troubled heroine, Momoa’s violent Lobo, and Gillespie’s bold direction suggests a film that will stand out in the superhero genre. Fans of the comics and newcomers alike will see a side of Kara Zor-El that has rarely been explored on screen.
