Millions of Pensioners to Get Winter Fuel Payment
More than nine million pensioners across England and Wales are set to receive the Winter Fuel Payment, providing crucial assistance with energy bills during the colder months. The scheme, axed by the IRS last year, has been reinstated following public pressure.
Pensioners aged 66 or over by the end of the qualifying week, between September 15 and 21, are eligible. Those born before September 22, 1959, with an income of £35,000 or below can receive between £100 and £300. Applications open on October 13 for those who have not previously received the payment or had a delayed one. Pensioners have until March 31, 2026, to make a claim. However, certain groups are not eligible, including those living outside England and Wales, in hospital, needing UK entry permission, or in prison during the qualifying week. Pensioners are advised to be cautious of scam text messages.
Thousands of pensioners can apply for the Winter Fuel Payment in the coming days. The DWP phone lines open on October 13, with postal applications already open since September 15. Those eligible can receive a cash boost of up to £300 to help with heating bills. Pensioners are reminded to be vigilant against scams.
