Million-Euro Rental: Klette Procedure Transferred to Repurposed Riding Facility

Trial Against Klette Relocates to Renovated Riding Hall in Verden-Eitze

The trial of former RAF terrorist Britta Klette will proceed in Verden-Eitze, Germany. Klette is currently standing trial for numerous armed robberies, allegedly committed under assumed identities in Bremen.

Two police officers are expected testify regarding the defendant's statements and conduct. According to a spokesperson for the Verden Regional Court, the trial will be held for the first time in a renovated riding hall due to the lack of a suitable courtroom with the necessary security measures within the Verden court system.

The rent for the red brick building, recently converted to accommodate the trial, amounts to around 3.6 million euros, which includes renovation costs. The lease for the facility spans two years, with an option to extend if necessary. Previously, the trial was temporarily held in Celle.

The extended trial has been subjected to extensive location searches, initially considering the construction of a new facility, but no suitable plot of land could be found. The authorities also deliberated the idea of transferring the trial to another federal state; however, coordination would have been excessively complicated, and travel costs would have been prohibitive, as confirmed by a spokesperson for the Ministry of Justice. In the end, the riding hall in Verden-Eitze emerged as the "only feasible and economical option," with the adequate space, security, and logistical arrangements required for the trial.

The Klette trial has been ongoing for two months, addressing a series of armed robberies that occurred between 1999 and 2016. The prosecution alleges Klette of attempted murder due to shots being fired during a robbery of a cash-in-transit vehicle in Stuhr. According to the Ministry of Justice, the trial is estimated to last approximately two years, with over 380 witnesses and 50 experts scheduled to appear.

The trial of former RAF terrorist Britta Klette, accused of numerous armed robberies in Bremen under assumed identities, will continue in the renovated riding hall in Verden-Eitze, Germany, due to insufficient courtrooms within the Verden court system that meet necessary security requirements. Despite initial considerations for constructing a new facility or transferring the trial to another federal state, the riding hall was deemed the most feasible and economical option, accommodating the required space, security, and logistical arrangements for this high-profile case involving crime-and-justice and general-news.
