Mill Valley residents, businesses prepare for heavy rainfall, strong winds

Mill Valley, California, is bracing for a powerful atmospheric river event set to hit the region from December 22 to 24, 2025. Heavy rain and strong winds have already pushed residents and businesses to take precautions, with more downpours expected over the coming days, including Christmas Day.

Local businesses in flood-prone areas have started preparing early. Goodman Building Supply in Mill Valley stacked sandbags at its entrance to block rising water from high tides. Manager Victorio Fernandez also readied water pumps, knowing the store’s front and parking lot often flood during storms.

Residents are stocking up on essentials ahead of the storm. Gus, who lives deep in the woods of Mill Valley, gathered wood and fire logs, aware that his remote location could make last-minute trips difficult. Gary Karlston dropped off his son before the worst of the weather arrived, having already fixed drains and gutters around their home. Public transport users have also faced challenges. Flooding disrupted the parking lot at the Manzanita Park & Ride near the 101 Freeway on Shoreline Highway, causing delays for commuters. The Mill Valley Fire Department has stepped up its response plans. Extra staff have been deployed, and crews are on standby to handle potential storm damage as the atmospheric river moves in.

The storm is forecast to bring prolonged rainfall through Christmas Day, keeping the region on high alert. With businesses, residents, and emergency services all taking action, Mill Valley is preparing for flooding, wind damage, and possible transport disruptions in the days ahead.
