Military specialist Thiele in a recording: Moving nuclear submarines "poses a fire risk"

In a move that escalates geopolitical tensions, US President Donald Trump has announced the deployment of two nuclear submarines in response to remarks made by former Russian President Dmitri Medvedev. This decision comes amidst a series of aggressive actions by Russia in Ukraine and other regions.

The recent deployment of these submarines, known as the US's nuclear triad, is primarily a deterrent, not an active first-strike force. Military expert Ralph Thiele explains that this move aims to reinforce the US’s nuclear deterrent, maintaining its second-strike capability—the assured ability to retaliate with nuclear force even after a first strike by Russia. This strategy creates uncertainty for potential adversaries, discouraging nuclear conflict escalation.

Thiele further elaborates that the submarines remain hidden underwater, but by moving them closer to Russia's strategic targets, the US intends to emphasize its readiness and strategic reach without engaging directly, thereby exerting pressure and maintaining strategic stability through deterrence.

Meanwhile, in Ukraine, the situation remains dire. At least eleven people, including a five-month-old infant and two children aged nine and ten, were injured in a heavy Russian drone attack on the eastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv. Three people were killed, and ten injured in a Russian attack on a residential area in the eastern Ukrainian city of Kramatorsk. The Ukrainian military also claims to have attacked oil facilities and an electronics factory in Russia.

The Russian army has launched numerous drone attacks on various cities in Ukraine, including Dzuzhkivka in the Donetsk region, where at least five people were injured. Two men have been killed in the Russian region of Belgorod, near the Ukrainian border, in a Ukrainian drone strike, according to local authorities.

The Ukrainian General Staff reports 1,010 wounded or killed on the Russian side in the past 24 hours. A section of Russia's central Asian gas pipeline has been damaged by explosions, adding to the growing list of conflicts in the region.

Despite the threats of secondary sanctions from US President Donald Trump, India is set to continue buying Russian oil. Kremlin-linked politicians and experts in Moscow say that the deployment of US atomic submarines near Russia poses no threat to Russia's security.

Hundreds of protesters in the Ukrainian city of Vinnytsia demanded the release of men detained by the local military recruitment office, highlighting the domestic unrest that the ongoing conflict has caused.

As the situation continues to escalate, both sides appear to be digging in their heels, with no signs of de-escalation in sight. The international community watches with bated breath, hoping for a peaceful resolution to this increasingly volatile situation.
