Military Service for Sons of Ministers Eliyahu and Smotrich: Moving from Religious School to Israeli Defense Forces
The Tel Hashomer induction center witnessed a significant intake of new soldiers to the IDF's Givati Brigade today, marking a momentous occasion in Israel's military preparation and renewal. Among the recruits was David Lundin, the second son of Rabbi Haggai Lundin, head of the Hesder Yeshiva in Holon and teacher at the Yeshiva in Sderot. Rabbi Lundin, present for his son's induction, blessed the safety of all soldiers undertaking the mission with love and dedication.
Another notable recruit was Nave Eliyahu, son of Minister of Heritage Amihai Eliyahu, who expressed pride at the base, stating that his son's drafting into the IDF was a national event. Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich's son was also drafted today at the induction center for combat service in the Givati Brigade.
Defense Minister Israel Katz, who visited the draft center today, emphasised his commitment to security. He stated that the policy he leads is to defeat enemies and secure borders. Katz addressed the new recruits and their families, expressing pride in their determination to serve. Major General Dado Bar Kalifa, head of personnel, was also present during the visit.
The mass induction of new soldiers reflects Israel's focus on sustaining a robust infantry cadre in response to persistent regional threats and military demands. Such ceremonies at Tel Hashomer are both a symbolic and practical milestone reinforcing unit cohesion, morale, and operational readiness.
