Vietnam's Leadership Affirms Commitment to National Security and Modernization

In a significant gathering in Hanoi on August 1, 2025, Party General Secretary Tô Lâm addressed representatives from the ministries of National Defence, Public Security, and Foreign Affairs. The meeting, held ahead of the 80th anniversaries of the Traditional Day of the Vietnamese People's Public Security (August 19) and the diplomatic sector (August 28), underscored the importance of modernization, innovation, digital transformation, and stronger coordination in advancing national defence and security.

General Secretary Lâm praised the enduring partnership between these forces, describing them as essential to safeguarding national security, maintaining social order, and advancing Vietnam's international relations and global integration. He affirmed the commitment of the Vietnamese People's Army, the People's Public Security Force, and the diplomatic service to national independence in close association with socialism.

The gathering represented a strategic directive for Vietnam’s armed and security forces to modernize, innovate, and cooperate closely under Party leadership to safeguard national defense and social stability in a changing global environment. During the meeting, Tô Lâm emphasized setting clear goals for science, technology, and innovation, as well as cultivating officers as “digital warriors.” He also called for improving mechanisms to build military readiness against both traditional and non-traditional threats, strengthening defence industry development towards self-reliance and modernity, and enhancing defence diplomacy and international integration.

The integration and unity among the military, police, and diplomatic forces in Vietnam's national security strategy were also highlighted at the meeting. This reflects leadership attention to holistic security issues, including military, political, and diplomatic dimensions.
