In an escalation of the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, Russia launched 93 drones and two ballistic missiles into Ukraine overnight, according to reports. The attacks, which occurred on Tuesday night, were met with a swift response from Ukraine's air force, who managed to shoot down or suppress 62 drones and one missile.

The city of Izmail, located on the Danube river, was one of the hardest hit areas. Oleg Kiper, the head of the regional Odesa administration, reported drone hits on infrastructure and production facilities in Izmail. Fires broke out at the site of the attacks, and at least one person was injured.

Zelenskyy, the Ukrainian President, stated that the strikes "only confirm the need to pressure Moscow." He also called for more pressure, new sanctions, and tariffs until diplomacy works fully. In a show of solidarity, Zelenskyy thanked all partners who help stop this Russian war and expressed the need for strong security guarantees to ensure a truly reliable and lasting peace.

The attacks have not only affected Ukraine but have also raised concerns within NATO. Russian drones and missiles have entered NATO airspace during previous attacks, and this latest incident was no exception. However, no penetrations of Romania's national airspace were reported during the mission.

To counter these attacks, two German Eurofighter combat aircraft, deployed by the Luftwaffe, were sent to the Romanian-Ukrainian border on Tuesday evening as part of a NATO mission from the Romanian military airbase Mihail Kogălniceanu near Constanta. The attack prompted the scrambling of these two German Air Force Typhoon fighters to monitor the air situation in the border area with Ukraine.

The Russian Defense Ministry claims to have shot down at least 43 Ukrainian drones overnight into Wednesday. However, crashed Russian munitions or fragments of them have been found in Romania, Lithuania, Latvia, and Moldova, suggesting that not all of the Russian attacks were successfully repelled.

As the conflict continues, it is clear that the stakes are high. The safety and security of nations within and beyond the NATO alliance are at risk. The international community must continue to work together to de-escalate the situation and find a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
