Military personnel under active service indicted for allegedly aiming to disclose classified details concerning military tanks to Russia
An active duty soldier, Taylor Lee, aged 22, has been arrested and charged with attempting to share sensitive information about the M1A2 Abrams tank, a highly advanced main battle tank used by the U.S. Army.
The Justice Department announced the charges, which include attempted transmission of national defense information to a foreign adversary and attempted export of controlled technical data without a license.
Brig. Gen. Sean F. Stinchon, the commanding general of Army Counterintelligence Command, stated, "This arrest is an alarming reminder of the serious threat facing our U.S. Army." Taylor Lee, who is stationed at Fort Bliss, passed an SD memory card to an individual believed to be a representative of the Russian government, containing documents and information on the M1A2 Abrams tank and combat operations. Several of the documents contained controlled technical data that Taylor Lee did not have the authorization to provide.
After delivering the hardware, Taylor Lee texted the individual he believed was a Russian agent, "Mission accomplished."
