Ed Johnson, a man of valor and resilience, embarked on his military journey on June 6, 1966, at Ft. Dix, New Jersey. His path led him to the A&P Aircraft Mechanic School in Cheyenne, Wyoming, where he honed his skills in the art of aircraft maintenance.
Ed's career took a significant turn when he was commissioned a 2nd Lieutenant, following his successful completion of Officers Candidate School (OCS) at Ft. Benning, Georgia. His military service was marked by a series of notable assignments, including stints at Ft. Sill, Oklahoma, and Ft. Lewis, Washington.
During his tenure, Ed was a vital part of the Army Security Agency (ASA) and served at an outpost in Sinop, Turkey, on the Black Sea. His service in the turbulent waters of the Cold War was not without its challenges, and he was involved in significant battles, such as the infamous Tet Offensive and the Battle of Hamburger Hill.
Ed's bravery and dedication were recognised with the award of two Purple Hearts, a testament to the wounds he sustained on at least two different occasions during the Vietnam War. Despite these hardships, he continued to serve with distinction.

In Sheridan, Ed became a familiar figure, often seen at the Silver Spur café and Walmart. His passion for skiing led him to visit Park City, Utah, and other locations. However, deteriorating knees and ankles forced him to hang up his skis.
