Military of Israel reports intercepting a missile, originating from Yemen.

In the early hours of Sunday, Yemen's Iran-aligned Houthi movement launched a ballistic missile towards central Israel's Jaffa area, prompting sirens to sound in several parts of the country. The Israeli military swiftly intercepted the missile, marking another instance in the ongoing hostilities between the two parties.

The Houthi movement has been actively engaging in missile and drone attacks against Israel since October 2023, disrupting global trade and causing regional instability. The attacks have extended as far as the Indian Ocean, targeting not only merchant fleets but also the U.S. Navy. Over 100 attacks on merchant vessels have been reported across key maritime routes such as the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandab, and the Gulf of Aden.

The Houthis' strategic campaign aims to economically strangle Israel by blockading these crucial waterways. The conflict has significant implications for global trade routes, with the Red Sea, Bab el-Mandab Strait, and Gulf of Aden being vital choke points for international maritime trade, including oil shipments and container cargo. The disrupted shipping traffic raises security concerns for maritime navigation, increasing insurance costs and forcing rerouting or additional naval escorts.

The ongoing hostilities between Israel and the Houthis have been marked by a series of retaliatory strikes. In response to the attacks, Israel has carried out a series of retaliatory strikes in Yemen. The Houthis' attacks on Israel have been ongoing since the start of Israel's war in Gaza in October 2023.

The conflict between Israel and the Houthis has remained active despite some ceasefire efforts. The Houthi movement, controlling about 28% of Yemen's territory, continues to pose a persistent threat. Although the Israeli-Iran ceasefire began in late June 2025, the Houthis remain a significant threat, with no recent attacks in the Red Sea reported immediately after the ceasefire.

The humanitarian situation in Yemen also remains dire, as the Houthis' focus on external conflict exacerbates internal crises, including food insecurity and infrastructure collapse. The ongoing conflict poses ongoing threats to the security and stability of essential global trade routes, underscoring the need for diplomatic efforts to resolve the conflict and restore peace.
