Military forces of Israel launch strikes against Houthi positions in Yemen
In a significant escalation of the ongoing regional conflict, Israel has launched attacks on Yemen, targeting the Houthi militia. This move comes in response to repeated attacks by the Houthis on Israeli-linked shipping in the Red Sea and targets within Israel, including missile and drone strikes.
The attacks, confirmed by the Israeli military, targeted energy infrastructure approximately 2,000 kilometers away from Israel. The infrastructure, located in the city of Sanaa, Yemen, is believed to be used by the Houthi militia. Witnesses in the city reported two heavy explosions, adding to the confirmation of the attacks.
The Houthi militia, acting under the guidance of the Iranian leadership, has been engaged in a series of air strikes with Israel's air force. The militia's use of rockets and drones against Israel is a significant escalation in the conflict, potentially harmful to international maritime trade and regional stability.
The Houthi militia's actions are not limited to Yemen's territory. They have been attacking Israel with ground-to-ground rockets and drones in solidarity with the Islamic Hamas since the start of the Gaza war in October 2023. These attacks have severely disrupted Israeli commerce, notably reducing operations at the Israeli Red Sea port of Eilat by 90%, threatening economic stability.
