Spun a tale about a "lawless" Washington, hey, Donald Trump? Claims made through his spokesperson, Karoline Leavitt, insists this move is to wrap up the chaos spreading in the capital. But hold up, Gavin Newsom, California's Democratic governor, isn't buying it. He reckons Trump's real goal is to create a darn crisis, seed fear, and boost control. Newsom advised Los Angeles residents to chill out, stay peaceful, and avoid violence.

News flash, fam! Violence broke out over the weekend between US police, angry protesters, and migrants during federal raids. Protesters threw rocks, while the agents retaliated with stun grenades and tear gas – leading to several arrests.

Flash forward to this morning, and there were clashes in Compton between protesters and law enforcement, with the lingering smell of pepper spray in the air, according to AFP reps.

So, what's up with this National Guard deployment, then? Typically, these troops are on call for disasters or the occasional riot, like in 2020 after the death of George Floyd. But under Trump's orders, they're now trampling over local authorities in LA.

An activist, Kenneth Roth, ex-head of Human Rights Watch, reckons this is the first time since the 60s that a president has deployed the National Guard without the state's governor's say-so. Roth additionally claims Trump is putting on a show to keep enforcing immigration regulations.
