Headline: Cambodia Stands Firm at Preah Vihear Border After Deadly Clash with Thailand

Cambodia refuses to back down nor be unarmed at the site of yesterday's firefight in Preah Vihear province's Choam Ksan district, which left a single Cambodian soldier dead. This unwavering stance was communicated through a press release from the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces (RCAF) following talks with Thailand's Lieutenant General Pana Klaewblaudtuk and Cambodia's own Lieutenant General Mao Sophan.

According to the RCAF statement, there's no question of retreating or disarming from the contentious spot, as Cambodian forces had been stationed there before the 2000 memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the survey and demarcation of the Cambodia-Thailand land border was signed. Both nations agreed to carry on resolving the predicament through existing channels like the Joint Boundary Committee (JBC) and the Cambodia-Thailand General Border Committee (GBC), ensuring that the border region becomes a zone of peace, friendship, cooperation, and development.

The statement further mentioned that both sides would maintain the status quo, exercise self-restraint, and address concerns via the JBC, with an impending meeting in the following two to three weeks to preserve harmonious relations between the two countries.

Cambodia stressed the importance of mutual respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity while urging all parties to avoid further hostilities like those that took place on May 28. The negotiations concluded at 4.15 p.m. on the same day.
