Military assistance details to Ukraine will no longer be disclosed by NATO.

Going dark on arms shipments to thwart Russia's strategies

In a bid to hinder Russia's strategic military planning, NATO has decided to hide details of its arms supplies to Ukraine. Insiders from three NATO nations made this revelation on the condition of anonymity before the military alliance's summit in The Hague, scheduled for June 24-26.

Previously, Germany set a precedent for this move when Olaf Scholz stepped into office as Chancellor. Germany stopped disclosing information about the delivery of long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine and later classified all data related to military support.

A German diplomat explained their change of heart by saying, "Initially, we published everything. Then we asked ourselves: why? We even specified the number of missiles and ammunition. In the end, we realized that this was helping Putin, not the German public."

NATO appears alarmed that Russia is capitalizing on its informational transparency. Russia is reportedly monitoring NATO's conversations and press briefings, with a keen interest in negotiations, especially with new Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

One NATO representative admitted, "Everything discussed or said at press conferences almost instantly appears in Telegram news feeds. It seems they monitor this even more closely than our own media."

Russian state media showed keen interest in the negotiations that led to NATO's promise to provide Ukraine with €20 billion in military aid by 2025.

Russian media houses are observed to be exploiting minor incidents to create scandals and conflicts, a tactic they've used effectively in recent disinformation campaigns against their opponents. French President Emmanuel Macron and other European leaders supporting Ukraine have faced such smear campaigns.

These tactics aren't exclusive to high-profile leaders; they're also employed against lesser-known figures in the political landscape. For example, Russian channels have been caught attempting to discredit Western allies of Kyiv by passing off a napkin in front of politicians as a cocaine packet.

NATO's secrecy surrounding its arms shipments can be seen as a strategic move to maintain operational security and prevent Russia from predicting Ukrainian military actions. While there's no direct link, keeping such details hidden could certainly hamper Russia's military planning by preventing them from gaining strategic insights into Ukraine's military capabilities and NATO's support efforts.

  1. Amid concerns over Russia's exploitation of information for military advantage in war-and-conflicts, NATO has opted for secrecy in disclosing details of its arms supplies to Ukraine, following Germany's lead under Chancellor Olaf Scholz.
  2. In the realm of politics and general news, latest intelligence suggests that Russian media are capitalizing on minor incidents to fuel scandals and conflicts, a tactic known to be used effectively in their disinformation campaigns against high-profile leaders, such as French President Emmanuel Macron, and lesser-known figures in the political landscape.
