Military announces commencement of operation for seizing Gaza control
The Israeli army has announced the commencement of the ground offensive to capture Gaza City, a move that was originally planned for early August 2025. The decision comes after the Israeli security cabinet agreed to the plan to take Gaza, aiming to conquer the last terrorist strongholds and defeat Hamas in Gaza.
According to the spokesperson, Effie Defrin, the army has initiated the "next phase of the war." This phase involves the preparation and execution of operations to take the city of Gaza. Approximately 60,000 reserve orders have been issued for early September as part of these preparations.
The civilian population in Gaza City, estimated to be around one million people, is to move to tent quarters further south on the coastal strip, according to the plan of the Israeli military. Reports suggest that the residents may be evacuated to refugee camps in the center of the sealed-off Gaza Strip by early October.
Israeli troops are currently occupying the outskirts of Gaza City, the largest city in the Gaza Strip. The trigger for the Gaza war was the attack by Hamas and other Islamic groups on Israel on October 7, 2023. Since the start of the war almost two years ago, more than 62,000 Palestinians have been killed, according to Palestinian health authorities.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has ordered to take the city of Gaza faster than previously planned. This decision comes after Defrin stated that Hamas has been weakened as a result of the Israeli military operation and is now a battered and weakened guerrilla organization. The Israeli military's goal is to end the dependence of the population on Hamas.
However, the Israeli security cabinet's plan for taking Gaza does not provide details about the schedule for the conquest of the last terrorist strongholds and the defeat of Hamas. The army will further intensify the damage to Hamas in Gaza, aiming to weaken the group even more before the final push to conquer the city.
The Israeli army's ultimate goal remains to secure the safety and security of its citizens and to bring an end to the conflict in Gaza. The developments in the region are being closely monitored, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
