Military advancements by Israeli tanks lead to a communications disruption in Gaza.
In the heart of the Gaza Strip, a two-year war between Israel and Hamas continues to claim lives and disrupt daily life. The latest developments have seen an escalation of Israeli military operations in Gaza City, leading to mass displacement and a significant increase in casualties.
The Israeli army has been pounding the Sheikh Radwan and Tel Al-Hawa areas in recent days, causing destruction to many houses. Residents of Sheikh Radwan, a neighborhood north of the city center, have reported seeing tanks in the heart of their neighborhood. Similar explosions have been reported in Tel Al-Hawa, a neighborhood southeast of the city center, and residents there also report seeing tanks in the streets.
The Israeli forces have ordered residents of Gaza City to evacuate to the south, and about 60,000 Israeli reservists have been called up for the military operation to take control of Gaza City. This indicates a large-scale deployment in the area, with a significant troop buildup within Gaza itself.
The total Palestinian death toll from the two-year war has surpassed 65,000 on Wednesday, according to Gaza health authorities. In the past 24 hours alone, at least 79 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli strikes or gunfire. Tragically, four more Palestinians, including a child, have died of malnutrition and starvation in the same period.
The displacement of Palestinians is also a growing concern. Hundreds of thousands of Palestinians have fled Gaza City since August 10, but a greater number are staying put. Conditions in the designated "humanitarian zone" in the south of the territory are dire, with insufficient food, medicine, space, and shelter.
The Israeli army is expanding operations in Gaza City and dismantling what it calls "terror infrastructure" and "eliminating terrorists." Israel alleges that Hamas is responsible for the continuation of the war and could end it if it surrendered, disarmed, and disbanded.
Internet and phone lines have been cut off across the Gaza Strip, making it difficult for accurate information to be shared. The Palestinian Telecommunications Company's services have been cut off due to the targeting of main network routes.
The total number of Palestinians killed across the Gaza Strip from August 11 to Wednesday is 3,542, according to the Hamas-run government's media office. The deaths are unevenly distributed, with 56% occurring in Gaza City and the northern part of the enclave, while 44% occurred in the central and southern areas.
As the conflict continues, the international community is urged to intervene and help bring about a peaceful resolution, ensuring the safety and well-being of all those affected.
