Foreign Minister Wadephul's Trip to Lviv: Germany Stands Firm with Ukraine
Ukrainian Situation: Take Necessary Action - Military Action in Ukraine: "Carrying Out Necessary Measures"
Let's get down to business!
Germany remains one of the steadfast allies of Ukraine, according to the new Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul (CDU). He emphasized this during his first visit to Ukraine, on ARD's "Tagesthemen" news program, stating, "We ain't backing down, and we'll make it clear in the coming days."
Wadephul will attend an informal meeting of EU foreign ministers in the western Ukrainian city of Lviv (Lviv) this Friday. His Ukrainian counterpart, Andrij Sybiha, is also expected to appear.
On the agenda is finding out what Ukraine needs, Wadephul said. "We'll do what needs doin', and we'll keep on doin' it till Russia gets the memo: this war ends, negotiations start, and a ceasefire puts down roots," he declared.
The CDU politician confirmed discussions on a special tribunal would dominate the talks. "It's a way to show the free world that waging an aggressive war ain't without repercussions," he said, "and it's also a bit of future prevention, so no fool thinks they can wage 21st-century wars without gettin' their asses kicked."
EU Chief Diplomat Kaja Kallas already hinted that the establishment of the planned international special tribunal would receive final political approval in Lviv. This tribunal aims to bring Russia to justice for their aggression against Ukraine.
