Militants launch deadly assault on Niger military, leaving 34 soldiers dead near Mali borderline.
On June 19, 2025, a vicious assault woke up western Niger when around 600 mercenaries, riding high on 8 vehicles and over 200 motorbikes, slammed into the military base in Banibangou near the Mali border.[2][4][5] By the end of the day, the bloodbath left 34 Nigerien soldiers dead, and another 14 wounded.[1][2][3][4][5]
