In an appalling incident that occurred along the Furunduma axis in Kala-Balge Local Government Area of Borno State, the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) has admitted responsibility for an improvised explosive device (IED) attack that left at least 26 people dead.

The horrific explosion transpired around 11 a.m. on Friday, instantly claiming the lives of 17 individuals, including four women, six children, and seven other passengers. By Monday, the discovery of more bodies in the surrounding bush raised the death toll to a heart-wrenching 26. A security source verified this grim tally to Daily Trust, stating, "As of the last count, 26 people have died from the blast…".

The ISWAP further confirmed the tragedy in a statement issued on its Telegram channel, affirming the casualty figure.

Elsewhere, two Nigerian soldiers met a tragic end after they were killed by a suspected landmine along the Maiduguri-Damboa Road.
