In a significant development, a combing operation launched by security forces to intercept fleeing insurgents in the Longding district of Arunachal Pradesh resulted in a fierce encounter on July 6-7, 2025. The location of the encounter, under the Tissa police station, was in a thickly forested area near the Indo-Myanmar border.

According to the Superintendent of Police of Longding district, Dekio Gumja, the encounter took place during a routine patrol when the insurgents, believed to be from the NSCN (K-YA) faction, ambushed the security forces. The security forces effectively retaliated, resulting in the death of one insurgent on the spot, while the rest managed to escape.

The deceased insurgent's body was recovered by the security forces, who also found a significant cache of weapons and explosives at the encounter site. The recovered items included:

- Around 15 kg of improvised explosive devices (IEDs) - 34 detonators - Two .22 and .32 calibre pistols - Two magazines - 74 live rounds - One Chinese grenade - Two walkie-talkies - Indian and Burmese currency - Extortion notes - Combat clothing - Two SIM cards each from India and Myanmar - Other camp and incriminating materials

The large seizure of arms, explosives, and insurgency-related materials reflects the militants' intent to carry out hostile activities in the region. Longding district's dense forest and proximity to the porous India-Myanmar border make it a hotspot for NSCN-KYA insurgent activities and recurring encounters with security forces.

The security forces are currently conducting a search operation in the area to apprehend the remaining insurgents. This latest encounter follows similar clashes earlier in the year that led to the deaths of multiple NSCN-KYA cadres in the same region.

No further information is provided about the identity of the killed insurgent or the specific faction involved. The number of insurgents involved in the encounter is less than the earlier reported encounters in the same region.
