Militant Engagement in Udhampur Results in Soldier's Death; Simultaneous Search Operations in Progress for Remaining Militants
Terrorist Commander Killed in Encounter in Udhampur's Dudu-Basantgarh Forest
In a significant development, a top Jaish-e-Mohammad commander named Haider was killed in an encounter with security forces in the Dudu-Basantgarh forest area near Udhampur, Jammu and Kashmir, on 26 June. This is the latest in a series of encounters that have taken place in the region over the past year.
The encounter erupted on Friday evening, following an intelligence-based operation launched by security forces in the higher reaches of Udhampur. The gunfight occurred at the Seoj Dhar forest border, which connects Udhampur with Bhaderwah in Doda.
On 25 April, two encounters took place in the same region, resulting in the death of an Army soldier and another being critically injured. The injured soldier later succumbed to his injuries in a hospital on Saturday.
The Dudu-Basantgarh forest area has been the site of at least two significant encounters between security forces and terrorists in the past six months. Security forces believe that two to three terrorists are still hiding in the forested region.
Commander Haider was active in the Dudu-Basantgarh forest area for four years before his death. The Jaish-e-Mohammad, an active terrorist organization in the Udhampur district of Jammu and Kashmir, is believed to have terrorists still hiding in the forested region.
Joint teams of the Army, SOG, and police are on the ground in Udhampur, working tirelessly to eliminate the threat posed by these terrorists. Reinforcements equipped with drones and sniffer dogs were rushed from both Udhampur and Doda to aid in the search and neutralisation of the remaining terrorists.
The area remained under cordon overnight, though no fresh contact with the terrorists was reported. A massive search operation was resumed on Saturday morning, with the hope of bringing this dangerous situation to a swift and successful conclusion.
The Indian Army's White Knight Corps established contact with terrorists in the general area of Kishtwar around 8 pm on Friday. The Dudu-Basantgarh forest area has seen multiple encounters between militants and security forces, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by terrorist organisations in the region.
This latest encounter serves as a grim reminder of the sacrifices made by our brave security personnel in the line of duty. Our thoughts are with the families of the fallen soldiers, and we stand in solidarity with the security forces as they continue their efforts to maintain peace and security in the region.
