Mild temperatures to follow with an eventual warm-up in Latvia's weather forecast
Central and eastern Latvia is set to experience mild and stable weather conditions during the upcoming Midsummer holidays, according to the latest forecasts. Although the weather is changeable, most scenarios predict warm weather for the occasion.
Temperatures in the afternoons will reach 16-22°C during these days, but at night it will be around 10-15°C. Riga, the capital city in central Latvia, is expected to have maximums around 23°C to 25°C and minimums around 14°C to 16°C on August 7 and 8. Wind speeds will be moderate, around 11 to 16 km/h, coming from the north or northeast.
There is a 0% chance of precipitation during this period, and humidity will range roughly between 68% and 78%. The weather will be largely dry, with no significant rain expected.
In Riga, specifically, August 7 afternoon and evening will be cloudy, with temperatures around 15°C, north winds 15-16 km/h, and no rain. August 8 morning will see clearer conditions with northeast winds 11 km/h, temperature about 10°C minimum, and no rain.
While detailed separate forecasts for eastern Latvia are not available, weather in Riga generally reflects conditions for nearby regions in central and eastern Latvia. Thus, similarly mild, largely dry, and moderately windy weather can be expected.
However, occasional rain and thunderclouds are expected to pass through all regions during the Midsummer holidays. Short-lived rain and thunderstorms are possible in some places on Saturday and Sunday. The coldest weather is expected on Thursday and Friday, particularly in coastal regions where north-westerly winds will become even stronger, reaching 15-19 metres per second in gusts on Thursday.
Despite the cooler than average June this year, with an average temperature of 14.5 degrees, only 0.3 degrees below the climatic norm, the Midsummer holidays are predicted to be warmer than the climatic norm for June. In fact, the Midsummer holidays' weather is expected to be warmer than the weather seen in the previous six years, when June in Latvia was often characterised by summer heat, with average temperatures reaching 17-19 degrees, which is 2-4 degrees above the climatic norm.
Lighter winds and afternoon temperatures reaching 17 to 23°C are expected on Saturday and Sunday, providing a pleasant end to the Midsummer holidays. It's important to note that while these forecasts provide a general overview, localised weather conditions may vary, so it's always a good idea to check the latest updates.
