AC Milan and Cremonese Set for Season Opener

After a summer of significant changes, AC Milan are set to kick off their 2025-26 Serie A campaign against Cremonese this weekend. The Rossoneri, under the guidance of returning head coach Massimiliano Allegri, will be aiming to extend their impressive run of form in season openers.

In the last five seasons, AC Milan have won four of their opening matches, with their most recent draw coming against Torino last year. However, Cremonese will provide a challenging test, having drawn their last two encounters against Milan in the 2022-23 season.

One player who could potentially make a difference for Cremonese is Jari Vandeputte, who provided an impressive 28 assists in Serie B over the past two seasons for Catanzaro and Cremonese. Vandeputte's tally is matched only by Mohamed Salah across Europe's top five leagues and their respective second tiers in the past two seasons.

AC Milan's attack will be bolstered by the addition of Victor Boniface, who is expected to join the club on loan with a purchase option from Bayer Leverkusen. Christian Pulisic and Rafael Leao are also expected to feature, although Leao picked up an injury during the Coppa Italia match.

Luka Modric, the only former Ballon d'Or winner currently playing in Serie A, could make his AC Milan debut from the bench. Modric, who set a record for appearances in a season with Real Madrid in 2024-25, played a crucial role in their attack, contributing to 13 goals in all competitions.

Allegri guided AC Milan to a Scudetto and a Supercoppa Italiana during his first stint with the club. His first competitive match back as head coach since January 2014 was a Coppa Italia match against Bari, which Milan won 2-0.

According to Opta, AC Milan have a 66.7% probability of winning the match, while Cremonese have a 14.8% probability, and a draw has an 18.5% probability. The stage is set for an exciting encounter as AC Milan look to start their season on a positive note.
