Milan's Iconic San Siro Stadium Sold for €197M, Paving Way for Modern 71,500-Capacity Arena
Milan city hall has approved the sale of the iconic San Siro stadium to Inter and AC Milan for €197 million. The clubs plan to build a modern 71,500-capacity arena on the site, with the current stadium set to be demolished afterwards.
The sale includes over 28 hectares of adjacent land, and the project will be led by renowned architect Sir Norman Foster and his firm Foster + Partners, in collaboration with Manica. The FIGC, pleased with the vote, sees this as a step towards Milan potentially hosting UEFA Euro 2032 matches. However, the proposal has faced criticism for lacking details about the new stadium's development and surrounding area, and for the price being considered too low for prime real estate. The sale must be completed by Nov. 10 to avoid a public building protection order. Currently, only Juventus' Allianz Stadium in Turin meets UEFA's criteria. The new stadium is expected to be completed by 2031, with the clubs continuing to play matches at the current San Siro until then.
