Xhaka Heading Towards Milan? Potential Move on the Horizon

Milan strategically positioned "alternative" midfield players spectacularly

In the realm of football gossip, a tantalizing development is brewing - Bayer Leverkusen's Swiss midfield maestro, Granit Xhaka, might be swapping German soil for the Italian grass under AC Milan's feet. As the bubbles of speculation rise, Xhaka and Milan's attachment seems increasingly genuine.

Reports suggest that the 32-year-old has his heart set on a switch to Lombardy, with the Italian powerhouse exhibiting similar interest. According to the Italian daily "Gazzetta dello Sport", negotiations are already in motion and could get underway as soon as this week. Xhaka is still under contract with Bayer Leverkusen until the end of June 2028, but a potential offer from Milan might be hard to resist.

To sweeten the deal, Milan is rumored to be considering the inclusion of defender Malick Thiaw in the transfer. A three-time German international, Thiaw moved to AC Milan from Schalke 04 last season and made 22 league appearances. With Jonathan Tah recently packing his bags for FC Bayern, a position in Milan's defense may be open for Thiaw.

Milan Steps Up Their Game

With the prospect of Xhaka potential moving to the San Siro, Milan's sporting director Igli Tare may have dreams of paring Xhaka alongside Luka Modric (39) in midfield. The Italian traditional club is also reportedly enthralled with the experienced Real Madrid professional, who is currently participating in the Club World Cup with his team. The acquisition of Modric is said to be imminent, with an announcement expected in the coming days.

Recently, Leverkusen has bid farewell to several key players, including head coach Xabi Alonso, Tah, and winger Jeremie Frimpong. The highly-anticipated transfer of Florian Wirtz to FC Liverpool is also on the horizon.

Xhaka, himself, has acknowledged the losses as "a big hit". Whether he will continue to be a central figure in the squad remains uncertain. "It takes a lot of energy. And I'm not 25 anymore, but will be 33 in September," stated Xhaka. "The management should find good solutions – whether with me or without me is another question, but as of today, I'm here," he added, striking a hopeful tone.
