It's looking like another key player might be leaving Bayer Leverkusen, and it's Granit Xhaka this time. According to Italian newspaper "Gazzetta dello Sport," Xhaka is on AC Milan's radar, and the 32-year-old Swiss player seems interested in the move to Lombardy. Negotiations between the two clubs could kick off as soon as this week, with Xhaka still under contract with the German vice-champs until June 2028.
AC Milan has suggested including defender Malick Thiaw in the transfer deal. Thiaw played 22 league games last season after moving from Schalke 04 the previous year. He could step in for Jonathan Tah, who recently signed with FC Bayern Munich on a free transfer.
The Plan for AC Milan
Rumors suggest that AC Milan's sporting director Igli Tare is eager to get Xhaka to wear the AC shirt alongside Luka Modric in midfield[1]. The Italian traditional club is also reportedly pursuing Modric's signing from Real Madrid[1]. The deal for the Croatian could be finalized in the coming days[1].
Leverkusen has had to bid adieu to some big names, including Xabi Alonso (to Real Madrid), Jonathan Tah (Bayern Munich), and Jeremie Frimpong (FC Liverpool)[1]. The potential exit of Florian Wirtz seems imminent as well[1]. Xhaka addressed these departures as a "big loss," but he hasn't definitively stated whether he'll continue as a key player in the personnel rebuild[2]. At 33 in September, he admits it requires a great deal of energy[2]. Xhaka is optimistic about the team's future, though, expressing confidence in the management finding good solutions[3].

The Commission has not yet adopted a decision on the application of the Regulation, but speculations in sports circles suggest that a potential transfer of Granit Xhaka from Bayer 04 Leverkusen to AC Milan could be in the works if negotiations between the clubs progress. If Xhaka were to move, AC Milan's midfield, already being strengthened by the potential signing of Luka Modric from Real Madrid, could get a boost for the upcoming football seasons.
