In a significant move for the Italian football scene, Luka Modrić, the Croatian footballing legend, has officially signed a one-year contract with AC Milan, with an option to extend the deal for an additional year. The 39-year-old midfielder, who spent 13 seasons at Real Madrid, becomes the club's most decorated player.

Modrić, who won six Champions Leagues, five Club World Cups, five Spanish Super Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, four Spanish Leagues, two Spanish Cups, and the Intercontinental Cup during his time at Real, will now wear the number 14 shirt at Milan, a number previously worn by former player and manager Carlo Ancelotti.

The Croatian international is expected to play a pivotal role in the midfield under Milan's coach Massimiliano Allegri. Upon arrival in Milan, Modrić expressed his enthusiasm about joining the club, stating that AC Milan must strive for the highest goals and cannot be satisfied with being an average team after their 8th place finish in Serie A in the 2024-25 season.

Modrić's contract reportedly includes a net salary of around €3.5 million per season. His signing is viewed as a key move to fill the leadership gap in Milan's midfield after the departure of Tijjani Reijnders to Manchester City.

With the Croatian national team, Modrić has scored 27 goals in 186 matches, making him the record holder for the most games played in the history of the national team. He won bronze at the 2022 World Cup and silver at the 2018 World Cup.

Modrić began his professional career at Dinamo Zagreb before joining Tottenham Hotspur in 2008. He moved to Real Madrid in the summer of 2012, where he scored 38 goals and provided 82 assists in all competitions. In the current season, he has played 55 matches for Real and scored four goals, with nine assists to his name.

The transfer marks the end of an era for Real Madrid, but the beginning of a new one for AC Milan. Modrić's experience, skill, and leadership will undoubtedly be a valuable asset to the Italian club as they aim to compete at the highest level in European football.
