"Milan" is in discussions regarding the potential acquisition of Modric
Luka Modrić Joins AC Milan on a One-Year Deal
After a storied 13-year career at Real Madrid, Luka Modrić has officially moved to AC Milan on a one-year contract, with an option for extension through the 2026/27 season. The Croatian midfield maestro announced his departure from the Spanish giants on May 22, and after considering multiple offers, he chose Milan due to its rich history and ambitious goals.
Modrić, who turns 39 in September, made his debut for the Croatian national team in March 2006 and has since become the record holder for the most games played in the team's history. He has represented Croatia in two World Cup finals, winning silver in 2018 and bronze in the most recent tournament.
In his time at Real Madrid, Modrić has been a key player in the club's success, winning an impressive six Champions Leagues, five Club World Cups, five Spanish Super Cups, five UEFA Super Cups, four Spanish Leagues, two Spanish Cups, and the Intercontinental Cup. He has also been named the best footballer of the year by both FIFA and UEFA in 2018, earning the prestigious "Golden Ball" award.
Modrić has scored 38 goals and provided 82 assists for Real Madrid in all competitions. In the current season, he has played 55 matches and has scored four goals and made nine assists.
At AC Milan, Modrić will wear the number 14 shirt for the Rossoneri and aims to bring a competitive edge to the team. The club is also actively pursuing additional transfers to strengthen their squad, with a particular interest in Real Madrid left back Fran García as a potential replacement for Theo Hernández, who moved to Al Hilal. However, García's reluctance to leave Real Madrid complicates this potential transfer, despite Milan's and Modrić's interest.
Real Madrid's Club World Cup matches are scheduled for June 18, 22, and 26 against Al Hilal, Pachuca, and RB Salzburg respectively. As Modrić embarks on a new chapter in his career, he will be hoping to help AC Milan compete with the best teams globally and strive beyond mediocrity to win titles.
