Mikaela Shiffrin Breaks Records and Advocates for Diversity in Winter Sports

Mikaela Shiffrin, the Colorado-born skier, has made history once again. On Sunday, she won the slalom at Sestriere, Italy, securing her 100th World Cup victory, making her the first skier in history to achieve this feat.

This victory came less than three months after a violent crash that resulted in a seven-centimeter puncture wound to her oblique muscles, sustained at the Stifel Killington Cup in Vermont. Despite the setback, Shiffrin has shown remarkable resilience, demonstrating her unwavering dedication to the sport.

Shiffrin's success has not gone unnoticed. Sophie Goldschmidt, President and CEO of U.S. Ski & Snowboard, described her as "one of a kind." Constance Beverley, CEO of the Share Winter Foundation, views Shiffrin's dedication to promoting diversity in winter sports as a key aspect of her greatness as a skier.

In celebration of her milestone victory, Shiffrin has partnered with the Share Winter Foundation to raise $100,000 to help increase access to snow sports among youth in historically underserved populations. The foundation, which partners with Mikaela through a philanthropy effort in snow sports, aims to provide opportunities for children who may not otherwise have access to these sports.

Ikon Pass is supporting Shiffrin's philanthropic effort by matching up to $50,000 in donations for the Share Winter Foundation in honor of her 100th World Cup win, encouraging Ikon Pass holders to donate to the cause.

Shiffrin's goal is to bring more attention and passion to the sport, focusing on a cause beyond her own achievements. She believes that the lack of diversity in winter sports is a significant issue and aims to reset what's possible for everyone in the sport.

In March 2023, Shiffrin became the winningest alpine skier in history with her 87th World Cup victory, breaking the record set by Sweden's Ingemar Stenmark in 1986.

Beyond her achievements on the slopes, Shiffrin is active in other philanthropic initiatives such as the Jeff Shiffrin Athlete Resiliency Fund and advocacy for mental health and climate change.

With her 100th World Cup win, Mikaela Shiffrin continues to break records and inspire a new generation of skiers. Her dedication to promoting diversity and increasing accessibility to winter sports sets her apart as a role model and a true champion.

Mikaela Shiffrin's dedication to promoting diversity in winter sports is a key aspect of her greatness as a skier, as noted by Constance Beverley, CEO of the Share Winter Foundation.
