Polar Bear Cub Mika Celebrates First Birthday - Mika, Polar Bear Cub, Celebrates First Birthday at Karlsruhe Zoo
Mika, the polar bear cub at Karlsruhe Zoo, turned one today. The young cub, who once faced uncertain survival, is now thriving and almost as large as his mother, Nuka. Hundreds of zoo visitors joined in the birthday festivities for Mika.
Mika's name, meaning 'gift from God' in Finnish, was chosen from over 30,000 submissions. The cub received a special birthday cake, pumpkins, and new toys from his keepers. Mika's survival was touch and go after his birth, but he has since grown into a healthy cub.
Born at the zoo in Germany, Mika is being raised by his mother, Nuka. Tragically, Mika's father, Kap, had to be euthanized in July due to liver problems. Despite this loss, Mika continues to flourish under the care of his mother and the zoo staff.
Mika's first birthday was a joyous occasion at Karlsruhe Zoo. The cub's growth and health are a testament to the excellent care provided by the zoo. As Mika continues to grow, zoo visitors can look forward to watching him develop and thrive.
