Advocacy Group Initiates Effort to Address Issues Facing Aspiring Refugees Seeking Sanctuary - Migrant Aid Organization Initiates Advocacy Effort for Seekers of Political Shelter
The Migration Council for Refugees has launched a new campaign titled 'Still Loving Right to Stay' in Dresden, Germany. The campaign aims to address the growing concerns faced by asylum seekers, particularly in Saxony, who are facing increasing difficulties in obtaining recognition and protection as refugees.
The key concerns highlighted by the Migration Council for Refugees include the rising number of deportations and the challenges in the asylum process. Persecuted minorities might be classified as economic migrants, affecting their right to stay, leading to insecurity and fear among asylum seekers.
The campaign draws attention to the negative impacts of restrictive migration policies and growing hostility in parts of German society, including the rise of the right-wing AfD party, which supports stricter deportation policies.
Dave Schmidtke, spokesperson for the refugee council, stated that 2025 could be a year of isolation, deportation, and farewell to basic values for refugees. The campaign emphasizes the threat of deportation faced by asylum seekers, particularly those whose protection claims are contested despite often fleeing severe persecution and violence, such as Yazidi families from Iraq.
The Migration Council for Refugees is also concerned about the increasing hostility towards refugees in Saxony and Germany. They see the right to asylum being threatened and criticize the tightening of asylum policies. Instead of creating perspectives in times of multiple crises, those seeking protection are systematically disenfranchised. Benefits for refugees are being cut, families are being separated, participation is being restricted, and deportations are being enforced.
The campaign aims to stand up for human dignity, solidarity, and an independent civil society. It seeks to raise awareness about these human rights concerns and advocates for fair treatment and more humane policies toward asylum seekers within Germany.
The refugee council also aims to secure and expand its own work through the 'Still Loving Right to Stay' campaign. Donations will help build a long-term independent financing for the refugee council. The campaign's goal is to collect 50,000 euros by the end of October.
According to the refugee council, flight is an expression of global inequality, war, and persecution, not a temporary crisis. The council sees the need for a strong, solidarity-based civil society to address these issues effectively.
