Midwife Calls: Season 15 Cast, Storyline, Updates, and What We've Learned So Far

In the upcoming Season 15 of Call the Midwife, viewers can look forward to an exciting blend of medical challenges and social change, as the series continues to delve into historical and cultural issues through the lives of midwives.

The new season will kick off in 1971, with a significant storyline that sees senior members of the Nonnatus House staff embarking on a mercy mission to Hong Kong, leaving the younger midwives to manage the challenges back in Poplar alone. This dual setting will be reflected in the two-part Christmas Special, which will move between the sunlit streets of Hong Kong and the snowy East End of Poplar.

Helen George is confirmed to be back as Trixie Aylward, with her character continuing to split her time between Poplar and New York. Alongside George, fans can expect to see the return of Jenny Agutter, Linda Bassett, Rebecca Gethings, Georgie Glen, Judy Parfitt, Renee Bailey, and Natalie Quarry.

Other familiar faces returning for Season 15 include Molly Vevers as Sister Catherine, who took her vows in season 14, and Alice Brown as Angela Turner, along with April Rae Hoang as May Turner and Edward Shaw as Teddy Turner. Cliff Parisi is back as Fred Buckle, along with Annabelle Apsion as Violet Buckle and Daniel Laurie as Reggie Jackson. Stephen McGann is back as Doctor Turner, along with Laura Main as his wife Shelagh Turner and Max Macmillan as their son, Timothy Turner.

The new season will also welcome newcomer Conor O'Donnell as Nancy's new husband, Roger Nobel, but fans will sadly say goodbye to Megan Cusack, who is leaving the show after 4 years as Nancy Corrigan. Newcomer Zephryn Taitte is back as Cyril Robinson, with no news on whether his former wife, Lucille Robinson, will return.

The new series will be written, created, and produced by the team behind the current hit TV show, including showrunner Heidi Thomas, and executive producers Pippa Harris and Ann Tricklebank.

In addition to the Hong Kong storyline, the dynamic in Poplar continues to engage with social issues and personal developments among the midwives. Characters like Rosalind and Cyril are involved in social work around Poplar, touching on themes of race and relationships, while the series also explores systemic racism through new characters such as Joyce.

Season 15 will delve into various medical cases, including premature birth, placenta previa, kidney cancer, tuberculosis, and issues surrounding slavery. Sister Julienne is shown embracing change and love, reflecting a shift in the Order’s outlook.

Fans of the series can look forward to the new season, which will begin with two Christmas specials, followed by eight new hour-long episodes set in the East End and transmitting from January 2026 on BBC iPlayer and BBC One.

Moreover, a prequel TV series set in Poplar during World War Two has been announced for the BBC in 2026, while a Call the Midwife film, set overseas in 1972 and featuring iconic characters from the existing TV show, is also in production. Season 16 of Call the Midwife has been teased and the writing and producing team are working on it 'in due course'.
