Midwest braces for severe storms and wild temperature swings today

Severe weather is forecast for parts of the Midwest today. A mix of strong storms and sharp temperature shifts will affect Iowa, Illinois, and Missouri. Some areas face higher risks than others as conditions change rapidly.

Scattered strong to severe storms are expected late this afternoon and evening. The worst impacts will likely hit west-central Illinois, southeast Iowa, and northeast Missouri. These regions are under Level 2 (Slight Risk) and Level 3 (Moderate Risk) warnings.

Nearby, Iowa City and the Quad Cities face a **Level 1 (Marginal Risk)** threat. Delaware County and surrounding counties remain at **Level 0**, meaning little to no severe weather is anticipated there. Temperatures will also swing dramatically. Today's warmth in the 70s will plummet into the 40s by Friday. A rebound into the 70s is then expected by Monday and Tuesday. More rain chances return later next week.

The storm system brings a mix of hazards, from damaging winds to sudden temperature drops. Residents in high-risk areas should stay alert for updates. Conditions will shift again early next week, with warmer weather and further rain likely.
