Marco Richter, a native of Friedberg in Hesse, has joined Darmstadt Lilies on loan from Mainz 05 and has been named the team's new captain. This announcement was made on Saturday, 26th July.
Richter began his professional career impressively at 1. FC Augsburg, making his senior debut for the club in 2017 after excelling in their second team. He then moved on to Hertha BSC and later Mainz 05, where he played before joining the Lilies.
Before joining the Lilies on loan in 2025, Richter had a notable stint at Istra, making 65 appearances and scoring one goal. He also played for a Turkish club before his loan to Darmstadt. Over his entire professional career, Richter has made a total of 192 appearances and scored 32 goals in club and international football.
The Lilies are currently in a training camp in Bad Woerishofen, preparing for the upcoming season. Their first match will be against VFL Bochum in the season opener on Saturday. However, it is not yet certain whether Richter will be directly deployed in this match.
