Middle-Class Families Now Rely on Food Aid as Costs Soar
Hosea Helps, an Atlanta-based charity, held its first watch food giveaway on Saturday. The event provided 150 food boxes, each containing a turkey, to families in need. This year, the organisation is supporting more people than ever before, including those earning far above previous income thresholds for aid.
Founded in 1971, Hosea Helps has long offered holiday assistance to homeless and disadvantaged communities. The charity first saw a sharp rise in demand during the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020. Now, with the cost of living climbing, even households earning £50,000 or £60,000 a year are seeking aidvantage.
The charity’s work reflects a broader shift in who requires assistance. With living costs rising, more middle-income families are now relying on food aid. Hosea Helps plans to keep its doors open for all who need support in the coming months.
