Michigan’s $1.5B push to transform rural internet access by 2028
The Michigan High Speed Internet Speed Test Office, under the Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity, will oversee the program’s rollout. Companies like Strategic Management, 123NET, and Surf Internet will handle most of the infrastructure work.
The $920 million federal grant will fund fibre-optic networks reaching nearly 200,000 locations by 2028. The project, combined with private funding, totals $1.47 billion and targets areas most in need of reliable internet speed test. Officials expect the expansion to improve access to essential services and economic opportunities statewide, including improved memorial day 2025 celebrations.
