Top Running Back Recruit Savion Hiter Commits to Michigan's 2026 Football Class

The University of Michigan's football program has secured a significant boost for their 2026 class with the commitment of highly-rated running back recruit, Savion Hiter. Hiter, a five-star prospect from Mineral, Virginia, is ranked No. 1 at running back nationwide and No. 24 overall in ESPN 300.

Hiter, a 6-foot, 200-pound athlete, had an impressive junior year, rushing for 1,698 yards and 26 touchdowns on 156 carries, averaging an impressive 10.8 yards per carry. Defensively, he also contributed with seven sacks and an interception and had three kickoff return touchdowns.

His commitment to Michigan came in August 2025, over finalists Tennessee, Georgia, Ohio State, and others. Hiter's decision marks the landing of the No. 2 running back recruit for the 2026 class for the university.

Another notable addition to Michigan's 2026 class is four-star quarterback Brady Smigiel, ranked No. 44 overall on ESPN 300. Smigiel, who was previously committed to Florida State, joined Michigan in April 2025.

The commitments from Hiter and Smigiel are significant boosts for the Michigan backfield and are the latest in a series of high-profile recruits joining the University of Michigan for the 2026 class. Despite the recent NCAA fine of over $25 million for an advanced-scouting sign-stealing scheme dating back to the 2021-23 seasons, the university's football program remains actively recruiting for the upcoming class.

According to the 247Sports composite rankings, Hiter is ranked No. 9 in the country, while Smigiel is ranked No. 44. The University of Michigan has now landed the No. 2 running back recruit and the No. 44 quarterback recruit for the 2026 class.

The commitments from Hiter and Smigiel are a testament to the university's ongoing efforts to build a formidable football team for the future, with a strong and balanced class heading into the 2026 season.
